Monday — Arrivals & Opening

The first day is intentionally unhurried. Check in, settle into Moab, and ease into the symposium with an opening evening that sets the tone without overwhelming.

Opening Session
Welcome & Introduction to MPS 2027
David Kingham and Jennifer Renwick open the symposium — setting context, introducing presenters, and establishing the creative tone for the days ahead. Bruce Hucko shares a few words on the spirit of the event.

Tuesday — Presentations & Field Workshop 1

Morning presentations followed by the first round of field workshops. Everyone selects one workshop leader for Tuesday afternoon — groups of 9 depart from the venue.

PhotoJAM — Evening Gathering
Hosted by Mike Hayden. A relaxed communal gathering after the field. Share images, swap stories, have a drink. Participation is always welcome and never required.

The same structure as Tuesday — morning talks, afternoon in the field with a different leader. Attendees must choose a different workshop leader than Tuesday.

An open panel with all presenters — questions encouraged from the floor throughout. One of the most generative conversations of the symposium.

Same format, different leader. All 8 groups depart again from the venue. Attendees must choose a leader they did not work with on Tuesday.

PhotoJAM — Evening Gathering
Second PhotoJAM of the week. Hosted by Mike Hayden. The format loosens a little — by Wednesday night, people know each other. Often the most memorable evening of the symposium.

Thursday — The Closing Day

The final day moves from a guest closing presentation into The Closing Process — a collaborative group editing session — and ends with a relaxed farewell gathering.

A relaxed last morning. Coffee, conversation, and the particular warmth of a group of people who’ve just spent three days making photographs together.

Guest Closing Presenter — To Be Announced
A guest speaker closes the formal presentation program with a session that opens into The Closing Process — a philosophical and personal reflection on creativity, meaning, and the work we make. Speaker and title to be announced closer to the event.

The Closing Process
Participants work on a single fresh image made during the symposium. All presenters circulate through the room — looking, asking questions, offering perspective. The session closes with a shared viewing and discussion of the work made together over the past four days.

Lunch & Farewells
An unhurried close. Eat, linger, exchange contact information. The symposium formally ends here, though Moab is worth staying a day or two longer.

Presentation titles and speaker assignments will be confirmed and announced as MPS 2027 approaches. Times shown are approximate and may shift slightly. Registered attendees will receive a final detailed schedule approximately four weeks before the event.
